Soft moss a downy pillow makes, and green leaves spread a tent,
Where faerie fold may rest and sleep until their night is spent.
The bluebird sings a lullaby, the firefly gives a light,
The twinkling stars are candles bright, Sleep, Faeries all, Goodnight.

Goodbye February (here's your coat and hat as you go)

I am ready to kick out February and usher in March!  It felt like March was knocking early on Saturday.  I battled wind all day and had the red/windburned face to prove it.  I was able to mark a few things off my gardening to-do list such as weeding and mulching this area where my daffodils and tulips are planted.

I also cut back my monkey grass and cleaned up dead stella d'oro and hosta foliage.  Sunday I planted a few yellow iris bulbs and spent the rest of my outdoor time just soaking up the sun, listening to the birds chirp and watching the goldfish swim.  I have to MAKE myself turn a blind eye to all that remains to be done and just sit and "be" sometimes.  I'm looking forward to the gifts March brings.. ornamental trees, forsythia, quince, daffodils, tulips and many more!

  1. You have the most beautiful (and early) springs there in TN. Enjoy.

  2. I am so jealous we are still looking at atleast 8 inches of snow on the ground. I would have to shovel the flowerbeds to find the weeds! Enjoy it for me : )

  3. I gave Feb a kick to the pants also! Feb was not a nice visitor to me this year. Too cold and windy. I am so ready for spring but I think all gardeners are looking for spring.

Looks like you are getting a good start on your woodlands garden. You must not have deer or they would eat all the hosta you talk about. They and the rabbits enjoy them in our yard so I must spray them with stinky stuff to deter them from munching...

  4. Hi, Jennifer, You mentioned your columbines in a comment on my blog - thanks for visiting my blog! :) - Are the ones you have the little yellow and red ones? Aquilegia canadensis? Those are ones I would like to add to my garden this year. :)

  5. Hello, again! I have tried to leave comments on your blog several times before, but it never worked. I guess I was doing something wrong! :) Anyhow, thank you for following my blog! :) And for coming by to comment! :)
